May 28, Lots of new stuff - songs, videos, concert tix and a guitar store too!

The site overhaul has only just begun. If any of you visited the old site from a month ago or more, you'll see how many new and improved things we've added. We thought the old site just wasn't working. So we organized it into step-by-step lessons complete with video instruction from YouTube. I worked out a lot of songs and those have been going to the Lesson 9 page Easy Guitar Songs. I expect to put a lot more in so bookmark that page for future use.

I also connected with a concert ticket vendor so that visitors to my site can get tickets for rock concerts to see stars like JT, Bon Jovi, Billy Joel, etc. I'm excited about bringing that benefit to our visitors.

Finally, we are actually working on a store so that our visitors can buy some of the stuff they will need, like guitar instruction DVDs, sheet music, picks, and of course, real guitars.

I hope you will let me know what you are looking for in guitar instruction and how we can make this a better site more attuned to your needs. Just us the Contact button at left and shoot me an e-mail.

As far as tghat's concerned, I think we're gonna be adding a Forum page too, so everyone can ask and get answers to their questions.

I hope you are enjoying this new improved website. Come back soon for more good stuff!

May 19, Guitar beginners blog

This website has been totally changed to include instructional videos. It was also organized into lessons from 1 to 9 starting out with review of guitar parts, to guitar notes, scales, and finally, easy guitar songs, riffs and techniques. I really hope everyone likes it; I realized how bad the old site was and so this is how I fixed it. Happy playing!

Aug 23, Power chords

Power chords are an integral part of rock music, and they're pretty easy to play because you only need to play a few strings at a time. Power chords are simply parts of chords that, when played, are intense and "powerful," and they predominate rock music. Here's an example: playing now on only the 6th, 5th, 4th and 3rd strings: bar any two strings on the same fret. Try barring the 5th string and the 4th string at the 5th fret. Here you are playing low D and G notes. Do this barre with your ring finger. Then, using your index finger, bar the 4th and 3rd strings at the 3rd fret. Do you hear the notes, F and B-flat? They are pretty strong, right? To finish this lick, then bar the 4th and 3rd strings at the 5th fret. So you're now ending on the G and C notes on the 4th and 3rd strings. Practice them in this order, and you'll probably recognize the famous power chord intro to "Smoke on the Water." We'll be talking about more power chords in this blog. In the meantime, grab your guitar and start picking them out for yourself -- just try pairs of notes and play them together. You'll experience the intensity and impact of power chords, and you'll see how easily they can be played.

Jul 19, Scales, Modes ... no sweat

Scales can be intimidating to learn, especially when you start hearing about aeolian and myxolydian and names we can't pronouce OR spell. But remember that any scale is just a grouping of 8 notes in a sequence. Just 8 notes. Seven naturals and five flats/sharps to negotiate, and that's it. If you start getting overwhelmed by scales, just break then down: seven notes. That's it. No sweat!
